Comfort Height Toilet
A comfort height toilet, also known as a chair height and tall toilet, is designed to make going to the bathroom easier. Also known as an ADA compliant toilet, these toilets measure 17 to 19 inches from the floor to the top of the seat.
A standard height toilet is typically 15 inches tall from the floor to the seat. With a standard toilet, it can feel like you’re sitting on the ground. A comfort height toilet is like sitting down in a comfortable chair.
One piece comfort height toilets are considered more sanitary and easier to clean. With one-piece toilets, the bowel and tank are completely integrated. There is no gap between the tank and bowl where debris, bacteria, leaks, and fowl orders can create an unpleasant toileting experience.
Why Should You Consider a Comfort Height Toilet?
This extra height makes it easier for people to sit down and get up from the toilet. This is especially true for the elderly and those with mobility issues. Comfort height toilets help to reduce joint pain and strain on knees. Many people find chair height toilets allow for more comfortable and complete bowel movements.
Cleaning after a bowel movement is typically easier and requires less effort with a tall toilet. With a standard toilet, your legs, rectum, and pelvis can be pointed more downward with strain on the lower back. This is not the case with a chair height toilet. Your legs, rectum, and pelvis are more level with your hips or pointing more upwards/downwards. This generally makes pooping and reaching behind to clean yourself easier and requires less twisting of the hips.
Most people add a toilet bidet to their chair height toilet. Commonly referred to as a Washlet, this device replaces the standard toilet seat and sits on top of the toilet. Toto invented the Washlet in 1980.
Although there are other options on the market, the Washlet by Toto is far and above the best. I have Washlet’s installed in my home. After 20 years and four children, they still work great. I believe Toto Washlet’s offer the best comfort, highest quality, and superior performance and durability. Toto’s warmed seat, front and rear warm aerated water cleansing, warm air dryer, innovative deodorizer, and self-cleaning feature can’t be beat.
Are there Disadvantages to a Comfort Height Toilet?
Tall toilets may be uncomfortable or impractical for some people. Shorter individuals and children may find these toilets awkward as their feet may not touch the floor. There is also some debate that the higher seat can potentially disrupt the natural squatting position when pooping.
The larger size of some comfort height toilets can be a challenge in smaller bathrooms. Space constraints are usually associated with elongated toilets and where the door opens into the toilet.
Are there any other Benefits from Using a Comfort Height Toilet?
Most people who use a comfort height toilet with a Washlet experience a significant reduction in toilet paper usage. They also find going to the bathroom more comfortable and less strenuous. Women enjoy a comfort height toilet with a Washlet when menstruating for the thorough front and rear cleansing and freshening without the repeated irritation of toilet paper.
If hemorrhoids are a concern, a chair height toilet with a Washlet will make cleaning much more pleasant.
One piece comfort height toilets with elongated bowls are considered more ‘hygienic’. Why? The larger surface area of the bowl makes is easier for men and children to use with less mess. The longer bowl size is also a requirement for ADA use, and the longer/wider bowl is generally easier to use for those with mobility issues.
